Coeur de Foret: Fighting against deforestation and restoring forests in Indonesia
Organization information
Coeur de Foret
Location: Paris, France
Summary
Cœur de Forêt has been working since 2005 with the aim of protecting forests as well as people. Part of this project is implemented in Flores, Indonesia.
On this island, locals face poverty. Traditionally, farmers use the forest clearing technique which consists of burning the land. Consequently, this technique provokes important fires and therefore threatens biodiversity.
Cœur de Forêt acts in order to :
Fights against deforestation and restore forests as well as degraded soils. Many of the tree essences are replanted in agroforestry and near sources of water for a better ecological equilibrium.
Create a sustainable business breach/sector/opportunity using alpinia galangal, a local spice.
Cultivating this plant brings value to the territory and allows to diversify the income of the producers.
Raising children's awareness. They learn about the challenges of preserving biodiversity and the virtues of the local pharmacopeia.
Produce better to live better, know better to protect better!
Since 2014, in Indonesia, more than 300,000 trees have been planted, 2,500 people educated, 145 farmers supported, and raw materials have gained value through fair trade business channels.
