Summary
Associazione Quore, an Italian non profit organization advocating for LGBTIQ rights, launched in 2019 ‘TOHOUSING’, a social co-housing programme hosting vulnerable LGBTIQ people.
In a country where LGBTIQ rights are often under political attack, the project is about supporting and empowering LGBTIQ people at risk of marginalization and exclusion. While addressing the primary need of a safe house and food, TOHOUSING aims at improving the independence and well-being of LGBTIQ people.
TOHOUSING provides 5 apartments with a combined capacity for 24 people and it supports: LGBTIQ youth, thrown out by their families because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, Refugees, migrant and LGBTIQ asylum seekers in need of a safe place to start their integration process, Trans and Transgender people who suffers the most from cultural stigma. Guests are supported by project workers who develop a plan for each individual and provide them with psychological support, vocational guidance and employment support, legal support and health care services.
The project receives many help requests and it already succeeds in supporting many people, who have moved on from ToHousing and secured their own housing and employment.
