About this artwork
In this “trompe l’oeil” piece by Neïl Beloufa, differently colored and shaped materials seem to cover a scene below. As if it had been vacuum sealed below the surface of the artwork, the can mentioned in the title seems crushed under the layer above it, leaving no room for it to breathe. In contrast, the power outlet at the bottom of the piece waits patiently to be used, as if the viewer could plug in their device, seeing as a cord comes out of the structure. As if reducing waste to a background character and providing an alternative and connective method of consumption, Neil Beloufa insists on human adaptation through the means of technology. In a sense then, the infinite connections between individuals has come at the same time as the connections made between intelligent systems.
