I have always approached art as if it were an adventure story, adapting a screenplay, composing a score, or as the heroic experience of radical disobedience.
Biography
Nathalie Talec is an artist whose work blends exploration, science, and fiction, often drawing on the metaphor of polar expeditions. Her art probes the boundaries of perception, using cold, steam, and condensation as tools to reflect on the tension between reality and fiction. Talec’s fascination with extreme conditions and the mythologies of cold is influenced by explorers like Paul-Emile Victor, and she often explores "halfway states"—ambiguous zones where the real and imaginary converge. Her multidisciplinary practice includes drawing, photography, sculpture, video, and performance, all serving as a means to reflect on her place in the world.
Since 1979, Talec has explored themes of distance, immobility, and the artificial, using cold as both a scientific and symbolic tool. Her work incorporates elements of simulacra and lip-synching, evoking a paradoxical sense of immersion and withdrawal. Through her unique approach, Talec invites viewers to consider how science, myth, and imagination intersect, creating a world where the real is constantly fictionalized.
