Biography

With a touch of ironic detachment, Malte Zenses expands the realms of abstract painting and new realism, skillfully weaving in the spirit of his generation through autobiographical fragments. His creative process often begins with a memory, a place, or a snapshot, which he transforms into art. By concealing personal references, Zenses employs a unique set of abstract codes—comprising personal symbols, signs, and lyrics. Instead of directly narrating his own story through familiar codes, he invites viewers to evoke their own memories, capturing the fluid shift between the digital and the analogue. Through a dynamic interplay of codes, tones, words, and signs, Zenses crafts a distinctive visual language and aesthetic. Unrestricted by material or medium, his work constantly shifts between diverse spaces, balancing the personal with the impersonal. His artistic practice can thus be seen as a process of appropriation, translation, and recycling of lived experiences.
